Learn how to boost SEO with the correct alt text on images via Webtune AI.

What is an Image Alt Text?

Image Alt Text, also known as alt attributes or alt descriptions, is a short description of an image that you can add to the HTML code of a website. The main purpose of alt text is to provide a text-based description of the image, making it possible for people who are visually impaired or using screen readers to comprehend the content and context of the image.

Here are some of the benefits of adding an Image Alt Text -

  1. Accessibility: Enables users with visual impairments to understand image content using screen readers.
  2. SEO: Improves search engine visibility by providing context and relevance to images.
  3. User Experience: Ensures information availability even when images don't load, enhancing overall user experience.
  4. Screen Reader Compatibility: Facilitates compatibility with assistive technologies, making the website more inclusive.
  5. Image SEO and Search: Increases the likelihood of images appearing in relevant searches.
  6. Clarification of Content: Helps clarify the purpose of images, especially when they are ambiguous.
  7. Compliance: Aligns with web accessibility standards, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and legal requirements.

What is an Image Alt Text Issue?

Missing Alt Text- When a website includes an image without alt text, it results in a missing image alt text issue. The "alt" attribute is a critical element in HTML that provides alternative text for images. This text helps to describe the content or purpose of the image. When the alt attribute is missing, users, particularly those with visual impairments, face accessibility challenges.

Let's delve deeper into this concern:

1. Accessibility Barrier:

Users who rely on screen readers or other assistive technologies won't have meaningful information about the image.

Impact: Creates a significant accessibility barrier for individuals with visual impairments, hindering their ability to fully engage with and understand the content.

2. SEO Challenges:

Search engines use alt text to interpret and index images, contributing to overall SEO.

Impact: Missing alt text can lead to SEO challenges, as search engines may struggle to understand the context and relevance of the image, potentially affecting the site's search rankings.

3. User Experience Limitations:

Without alt text, users may experience limitations in understanding the context or meaning of images.

Impact: Diminishes the overall user experience, as images play a crucial role in conveying information, and their absence of description may leave users with incomplete or unclear content.
